Jenifa’s Diary Full Series Review, Latest News & Opinion

Jenifa’s Diary Series Review, News & Opinion.

This review is not just my personal opinion on Jenifa’s diary but that of numerous fans of the series. We all agree on two things, jenifas diary is an hilarious (Funny) family series and at the same time educative. This article is just a quick summary of what jennifers diary is all about. We recently posted about Funke Akindele, the writer and producer of jennifer’s diary. Jenifa's diary

Jenifa diary is a Nigerian television series coined out of a Yoruba movie titled Jenifa. The series is like an extension/continuation of the Yoruba movie, but add more educative scenes and Sulia is now a grown adult trying to make a good life for herself.

However, below are the similarities and differences i can extract from them.

Similarities Between Jenifa (Movie) & Jenifa’s Diary (Series).

Below are some of the similarities i can think of right now.

  • Suliat a.k.a Jenifa played by Olufunke Akindele is the lead actress in both the movie and the series. She is also the creator of both.
  • Some of the characters/casts in Jenifa are also in Jenifas Diary like her parent, her brother & his friend.
  • Both the movie and series centers on Lagos and Aiyetoro. And yes, you can’t get tired of that her defective English.
  • They both feature celebrities like Elde, Banky W, Sasha, Waje, Beverly Osu, Alex Ekubo, Toke Makinwa, Falz, Wunmi Obe, Tiwa Savage, JJC Skillz etc.

Now talking about the differences.

  • Jenifa (The Movie) is about a naive native girl who wants to feel among and live an expensive life, she told her parents she had secure admission into University and left Aiyetoro for Lagos. On the other hand, Jenifa’s Diary (The Series) is about a refined and a grown up Jenifa who left Aiyetoro for Lagos to process her visa and travel to United States of America.
  • The Series who she said she doesn’t see ending already has numerous episodes with which at the end of each, there is always one or two lessons to learn from.

Summary of Jenifa and Jenifa’s Diary.

Below is my short review of both Jenifa and Jennifer’s Dairy.

Jenifa – Released in 2008.

As i said earlier, Jenifa is story of a village girl who left her village (aiyetoro) for Lagos lying to her parent she had got an admission into higher institution. She collected huge amount of money from them and spend it lavishly.

She lived a wayward life style on campus like partying, sleeping around, examination malpractices, causing trouble. Towards the end of the movie she was wrongly told of being HIV positive which took her back to the village. But it was later revealed that the doctor was bribed to give her a fake HIV test result.

Jenifa was released in 2008 and is one of Funke Akindele’s best creation, its concluding part titled Return of Jenifa was released in 2009.

Jenifas Diary – Started in 2015 & Ongoing.

In 2015, Jenifa’s Diary was kick started and like most Nigerians, i was reluctant to watch it. After hearing different people’s opinion about the series, i was interested to see it which i did in early 2016. After long procrastination, i decided to get season 1 from a friend who is a big fan of the series.

After watching the first season of the series i couldn’t stop asking for more. Now my week isn’t complete without watching it. The series is being aired on AIT, NTA and STV.

In short, jennifers diary depicts a grown Jenifa who left aiyetoro for Lagos to process her visa and travel to USA. She was denied of the visa and decided to stay in Lagos to hustle her way to success. She is a good hair stylist, nice and well behave woman.

With the help of Toyosi (a girl she helped with accommodation few years back in aiyetoro when she came to write GCE) and her friend Kiki, Jenifa got the job of an hair stylist at Nikki’o saloon on the island. She is hard working and loved by her customers but her bad English sometimes become a barrier for her.

The Jenifa’s Diary features many Nigerian celebrities among them is Falz (also a stylist at Nikki’o) who becomes interested in her but got rejected a lot of time. She later accepts his proposal after he went to America and they both get engaged.

If you have not been watching Jenifas diary, you are missing out. Stop procrastinating, just try to watch Season 1 Episode 1 and tell me what happens after. Jenifa dairy is currently active with Season 8 as its latest episode and ongoing. Jenifa’s diary has been the recipient of many award, among which is the entertainment TV program of the year 2015.

That’s all about the review of Jenifa’s diary in my own opinion. You can use the comment box to add more about jenifas diary to this article and keep the discussion alive.
